    Description

Here we have a rare find--classic mechanical ferris wheel by J. Chein & Co from the 1950s.  All tin lithograph construction with a long running spring wound motor.
    The s
ix-spoke Ferris wheel features most of the Disney characters that were popular during the mid-1950's. The sale of this toy was to coincide with the opening of the Disneyland theme park in Anaheim, CA. Although it may have been built for that purpose it was released several years prior to the park opening. Copyright Walt Disney Productions.
All six swinging cars are identical featuring Mickey, Donald, and Pluto. A large Mickey portrait replaced the winking smiling face hub found on the famous Chein Hercules Ferris wheel toys. Structurally the Disneyland and Smiling Face Hercules Ferris wheels are identical.
The toy revolves for a fairly long time with just one winding. As it turns a rotating red, white, and blue disk on the front above Mickey's portrait strikes an adjacent bell. It's in great working order!
It has been displayed in a sealed glass box for nearly 30 years, untouched during that time.  There is some scattered pitting in the tin due to age but no major paint loss.  The piece is fully intact.  Measures 16 1/2 x 12 x 5 inches.
A fantastic antique toy for any serious early Walt Disney Disneyana collector!
