We occasionally come across miniature suitcases like the one featured here in the form of candy containers, but judging from the AMAZING DETAIL of this wonderful little piece as well as the original LUGGAGE TAG with the name of the original store which offered it, we think it also may possibly be a SALESMAN SAMPLE or ADVERTISING GIVEAWAY!
The PERFECT MINIATURE to showcase your coveted FRENCH FASHION doll accessory items, it also makes a fabulous display piece for housing the TINY TREASURES of your ALL BISQUE dolls and MIGNONETTES!
The suitcase measures a DIMINUTIVE 5 5/8" wide, 3 1/8" tall and 1 5/8" thick when closed, and is 4 5/8" tall when opened.  It is made of heavy stock cardboard in a deep tan color to resemble leather, and has the most INTRICATE DETAILS including all four original and unique decorative BRASS CORNER appliques, original tan LEATHER STRAPS still intact as well as ORIGINAL HANDLE, and original ornate BRASS CLASP!
When opened, the inside reveals an interior tan papered compartment and is inscribed in pencil "ST. JOHN'S EXCURSION, NORTH BEACH", and with the date of "JUNE 19, 1904", a wonderful bit of ORIGINAL PROVENANCE!  Also inside the trunk we found the original LUGGAGE TAG which is made of faux tan leather paper measuring a tiny 1 1/2" by 7/8", and has the original gold embossed label with the name of "RUSSELL'S", assumably the name of the merchant who offered this piece over a century ago!
Considering the age of this wonderful miniature, it is in overall EXCELLENT CONDITION with minor age wear including some very slight age discoloration to the exterior and minimal tarnishing to the brass----it makes an AMAZING PRESENTATION for your antique doll collection!
For scale purposes our 16" antique French Fashion doll, not included in this offering, is doing the modeling honors to show what a FABULOUS DISPLAY it would make with your antique dolls-----we can envision an entire "Bon Voyage" scene created around this sweet miniature!
